Summer Vibes DIY Flip Flops!

Summer Vibes DIY Flip Flops!

We don't know about the weather where you guys are from, but it's been crazy hot in Sarawak lately! All this sunny weather has been putting us in a super summery mood, and we've been dreaming of heading down to the beach for some sun-and-sand therapy! We stumbled across a pair of plain grey flip flops while window shopping and got inspired to make some cute embellished beach sandals. Keep reading to see how we turned these boring old slippers into a personalised, funky fashion statement!

Materials:

  1. A pair of slippers or sandals
  2. Scissors
  3. Super glue
  4. Rhinestones (or any other small embellishments)
  5. Hot glue gun
  6. Plastic flowers

We'll be embellishing the straps of the slippers with rhinestones and pink flowers! So the first step would be to make sure the straps are clean and dry. Before breaking out the glue, we recommend planning where you want to place your rhinestones first. Once you've decided on a design, lay down a thin coat of super glue (or any trusty adhesive) and quickly place your rhinestones into position. Press the rhinestones down firmly for a few seconds while the glue dries. Repeat this process along the whole strap, on both sides.

Once we reached the end of the strap, we used our scissors to cut off the excess rhinestone strip.

Let the glue completely dry for a few minutes. In the meantime, it's time to prepare your flowers! We had some fake flowers lying around the office, so instead of buying new ones, we used those instead! DIY tip: before you go out and buy your supplies, do a quick stock check of your leftover DIY or crafting materials. You should always make use of what you already have in hand to prevent wastage, and to save some money while you're at it!

First, we plucked off 4 flowers from their stems. We removed the little plastic stamen bit in the middle and laid 4 of them on top of each other. Lining the holes in the centers of the flowers, we poked the plastic stamen through all 4 flowers, and secured it with a dab of hot glue on both the top and underside of the flowers. And, voila, a beautiful flower ready to be glued onto our beach slippers!

Once the hot glue is dry, it's time to glue the flowers onto the straps! We repeated the same procedure as before, with the rhinestones. Lay down a coat of hot glue, and then place the flowers into position, pressing down firmly for a few seconds until the glue dries.

Repeat on the other slipper, and you're done! An adorable pair of summery sandals for a day at the beach, at the pool, or just chilling around town. Take a look at our final product:

Super cute and easy to do yourself: the perfect little weekend DIY project! Would you attempt this DIY yourself? Let us know, and share the outcome with us! Until next time, have a great Friday and happy crafting, everyone!
