Easy Hair Clip DIY

Easy Hair Clip DIY

For this week's edition of easy peasy DIYs, we blinged up a pair of plain hair clips with some colourful pom poms and star sequins! Oh, did you know that the type of hair clips we used (pictures below) are called claw clips? You learn something new every day! Here are the materials you'll need to get started.

Materials:

  1. Inexpensive hair clips. A solid colour would be best for this DIY.
  2. Decorative items (we used pom poms and sequins)
  3. Hot glue gun (optional)
  4. Super glue, or any other adhesive you already have

For the first hair clip, using the hot glue gun, we stuck tiny pom poms along the straight edge of the claw clip. We dabbed the glue directly onto the clip, then placed the pom pom on it, holding and pressing it in place for a few seconds until the glue dried completely. Remember to work quickly but carefully with hot glue!

We decided to create an alternating design of hot pink and orange pom poms, all along the edge of the claw.

And here's the finished product. It turned out so cute!

The second clip is a bit more fiddly. We chose to use super glue instead of the hot glue gun because in our test runs (always a good idea when working with glue!) we couldn't work quickly enough, and the glue dried before we could put the sequins where we wanted them! We dabbed the super glue onto the clip, a little bit at a time, and popped the tiny sequins in place. Here's a tip if you're working with sequins this small: use a toothpick or popsicle stick to pick them up and move them around before the glue dries.

Here's how it looked like once the glue dried:

So adorable! We loved how they turned out, and it took hardly any time at all! It would be the perfect DIY for a fun Parent-Daughter activity this weekend! Would you try this DIY? Let us know! Until next week, happy crafting everyone!
